Geezy The Barber

Kalonji Paschal

"I was chasing this hoop dream, because almost every kid in the hood wants to be an athlete... that's all we know. I didn't know about trade schools or anything like that coming up all I knew was that I wanted to go to a college and play ball and go get some money playing' hoop. I ended up going to Eastern Arizona College for two years after graduating from Jefferson high school in 2008, and then transferring to Colorado Mesa University. After one year in Colorado I started getting "homesick", so I decided to go back home. In choosing to go home I'm thinking I can get some kind of job while I fully pursue a pro ball career and take care of my son, because still basketball is all I knew. I got offered a few contracts to go play overseas but nothing I found would help me support my dream of playing basketball and providing a avenue for my family. Instead of settling for less than what I felt I was worth, it was time to make some changes, time to grow up and not only take care of my responsibilities but also to genuinely enjoy life. I had a tough reality check because everyone expected me to be some way and I lost myself in trying to be that person. I looked at many different career paths before I chose to enroll in barber school, and honestly I could've went overseas and played ball but it wasn't right. It wasn't what I really wanted to do, I did that for everyone else because honestly just like everybody else, I only wanted to be accepted. The passion I have to be a better father and a better man I'm able to show it with every person who sits in my chair I look to give them a nice haircut for a fresh start the same way cutting hair was a fresh start for me. I have a vision in my head and a plan on how to climb to the top. Barbering a lot of people see it as a hustle but I see it as a lifestyle with endless opportunities and possibilities not only to better myself and my loved ones lives but others as well, and I'm not afraid to go after any of it."
